The design consulting firm of dlvarchitectureTEXAS is a sole-proprietorship established in July 1997 with full architectural and interior design consulting and production services by David Lockwood Van de Ven, Jr., AIA, CSI, RA, ID, PREI, TAREI (associate) with more than 40 years professional experience in the architectural and interior design profession. David endeavors to provide excellence and professionalism through his encouragement in business and design services by mentoring and maintaining the highest level of education and experience that is expected by the Client for the services rendered.

The Design Architect's Journey

Mr. Van de Ven is a 1969 Bachelor of Architecture (Design) graduate from Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas. Prior to his graduating thesis year, David participated as a student team member for the Department of Interior's Historic American Building Survey in Pensacola, Florida in the Summer of 1968. David worked with two University of Florida students under the tenure of F. Blair Reeves, FAIA, professor at the University of Florida . From November 1969 to November 1971, David enlisted in the Armed Forces and trained as a U.S. Army Military Policeman. His years of service provided him with a unique perspective and insight into law enforcement and confinement facility design and programing. After his Honorable Discharge in 1971, he became employed and received a broad base of professional architectural experience in design and construction. He assumed many roles of responsibility during his internship before attaining his license in Texas as an Architect and Interior Designer in 1992 and 1993 respectively.

From 1987 to 1997 David specialized in Healthcare Design and Construction for the Baylor Healthcare System in the Dallas - Fort Worth metro region. He was employed and recognized as a TeamWorks Senior Project Architect apart of MEDCO / HED Affilliate, a Design-Build Facility and Construction Firm. His background with local, national, and internatioally recognized arrchitectural and interior design firms has included multi-story high rise, sports arena and stadiums, small and light commercial, industrial and manufacturing, commercial office, warehouse, restaurant, night club, educational, institutional, speculaive developments, airport and transportation terminal design and renovation; as well as custom residential, multi - family housing, apartments, townhouses, condominium, religious, and municipal / governmental projects in varied scale and scope over $ 100+ million.

The Design Architect's Management Exposure

Mr. Van de Ven has worked in various professional design environments from the one and two person firm, the structured corporate firm, architectural / engineering design firm, facility firm, to the design - build firm. His exposure to various types of construction methods and detailing ranges from wood, concrete, steel, to tensile structures. He has shell, renovation, and interior finish out experience. David maintains his technical skills and knowledge through continuing education required to maintain licensure in three regulated professional licenses from the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners and the Texas Real Estate Commission. He maintains Computer - Aided Design skills in order to provide the latest production dileverables in the AutoDesk Architectural Building platform. He is encouraged to intergrate into Revit(BIM)platform to enhance his degree of effectiveness, economy, and excellance in his services.

Commercial Prototype Design and Construction

His backgound in retail restaurants has involved him in prototype design and construction of "Steak and Ale" restaurants and key custom restaurants in the Plaza of the Americas, a major CBD Dallas office / hotel / retail mall / recreation ice rink complex in the mid 1970's. In the early 1980's he became involved with restaurant design and construction with a Design Build firm modeling the "Fudrucker" theme type of restaurant presentation in Austin. David again worked with the HED / Marriot design team on the main BUMC Food Service Renovation on the main Dallas BUMC campus in the mid 1990's. In 2006 he was employed with INTERPLAN SW, LLC as an architectural project manager in the production deliverables for Bid, Permitting, and Construction of national retail and restaurant clients from California to the Midwest.

Professional Real Estate Inspection

In February 2004 Mr. Van de Ven after having established a sole - proprietor design / construction consulting firm in 1997,expanded his potential interests and expertise by acquiring his Texas Real Estate Commission license as a Professional Real Estate Inspector. Mr. Van de Ven added inspection services for residential and commercial fuduciary real estate purposes to his architectural feasibility, site planning and programing capabilities in servicing potential clients. His TREC PREI license is currently inactive until required tentative E & O Insurance is acquired per State of Texas regulations to continue and perform licensed services.
